Simply Stacy Goes to Floral Classes!

Linda & I spent the week at Koehler & Dramm in Minneapolis, MN taking floral classes...our brains have been competely saturated in flowers, designing, care, and business practices...WE LOVED IT!!! Here are some of our creations:
Making corsages using both wrapped and glued techniques. My favorite was the one made for Leve's hair.
We also got to work on European Handtied Bouquets...what a simple way to make a beautiful arrangement. Our favorites to experiment with were the sleeves of 'grocery store' flowers. Who would have believed they could come together to something so pretty?
Since we were there, Linda and I took advantage of their "Hands on Wednesday" classes on Wednesday evening. There we got to make what we called our "Texas Nosegay"...honestly...this was an arrangement that stood 3 feet tall!
The individual who hosted us had some flowers she had gotten for her birthday that were looking sad, so we refurbished them with just a few roses....flowers are so fun!
A fall bridal bouquet using 'grocery store' sleeves of flowers. Such a great, cost-effective option.
Because roses are such a staple of the industry we learned how to make various arrangements using differing quantities of roses.
Our sympathy arrangements....a great opportunity to hone our bow-making skills.
An example of a waterfall bouquet for a bride. These are currently not a huge trend, but I believe they will definitely be making a big comeback again soon.

Kristen & Stephen--September 2012

This couple was so unique. Kristen and I sat down in the spring and discussed my doing the design for her event. I made a proposal that came in out of her budget. Instead of walking away, she came back to me with the budget she could handle and asked if I might tutor her and SHE would do all the prep work. Normally I probably wouldn't agree to such an arrangment, but because I felt she and I were a good match personality-wise I said yes. And she was awesome. I would give her tasks and tutorials and she got to work straight away. The photos are of the entire event...many pieces she or Stephen put together...my assistant, Jenn, and I put everything up that day, however. It was a treat to work so closely with a the couple and I have enjoyed getting to know them better post-wedding as well.

Manda & Phil--August 11, 2012

This couple was a complete blast...best dance of the season, I think! True, the DJ must have played "Call Me Maybe" 10 times, but the energy and joy in the room was epic.
Manda and Phil had me in an advisory role and as a "day of" coordinator. I gave feedback as we got close, but was hands-off in terms of preparation. The day of, however, we had a little snafu with the flowers...they weren't quite what Manda had been dreaming of. THANKFULLY the staff at the reception hall pitched and and we made quick work of repairing the bouquets and centerpieces to the style she was looking for...I am thankful for those with a "can-do" attitude! Simply Stacy did the setting up of all the pieces that Manda & Phil had put together.
Manda & her maids...such a lovely group of gals.
Manda had a vision of having a lifejacket picture...thankfully I was able to connect with the resort to get the lifejackets delivered in time for the photo opp...what a hoot!

Sierra & Shane--August 4, 2012

Sierra & Shane had a lovely wedding on an even more lovely August day. Their budget for a wedding coordinator was small and after some discussion we came to the conclusion that their budget would be best used to take some of the decor items off of Sierra's to-do list and that they would utilize the Resort's Coordinator more fully. As a result, my main areas to work on were the aisle and arbor decor, the favors, and the rustic picture frames. Below is what we came up with.
Utilizing wheat from my Father's field we create sheaves of wheat that were tied with differing colors and sizes of ribbons. The same ribbons were utilized up front to make a hanging ribbon and flower curtain in the arbor. The flowers were sola shell flowers. (The bouquets on either side were by the local florist).
Sierra & Shane wanted a very personalized, very unique favor. We settled on giving each guest a bar of lavender soap. Each batch of soap was hand-made, but, and packaged by me. I also put together the tags to send Sierra & Shane's greetings. The soaps were placed at each place setting at the reception. Extras were put near the exit of the hall.
Sierra had seen the neatest frames to hold the table numbers...the cost was higher than her budget allowed. I was able to locate real barn-wood and create the frames for under $7 each (including labor). The frames were used as Christmas gifts to family members with photos of the Bride and Groom inside.

Angie & Andrew--July 2012

Angie and Andrew are such an interesting couple and a joy to work with. They both had very clear ideas of what the wedding should look like and it was fun to work with both of them to make their individual visions come together into one look.
They hired me in the "partial planning" capacity which meant I helped do a lot before the wedding.
